Greenhouse #3.....

ALMOST THERE!! In fact, we could harvest some of this amazing arugula for market this week, but I'd like to wait another week to let it really, really size up! The heat has created a surge in the last greenhouse where we direct planted transplants and direct seeded spinach & radish..... early tomatoes will be going in as well as huge transplants compliments of greenhouse #2. We are currently also preparing greenhouse #1 for the same type of scenario for the fall time! So greenhouse #1 and #3 will host early and late greens for all to enjoy when the field crops are not yet ready in spring or when frost has wreaked havoc in the fall! Since we are using our own field soil and our own compost, the flavor is not compromised. We are not growing in synthetic soils.....flavor packed field soil and under GLASS, so the plants are in heaven, not to mention the weeds.....

Green Greenhouse!

These pictures took this morning... plants include our zucchini and big, beautiful heirloom tomatoes! I also tinker with big flowers like Brugmansia (aka "Trumpet Flower") and sun flowers, which I usually just direct seed, but decided to start some earlier in pots..... Also have 'GARDEN BOXES'. Ben and I will be selling these big beasts at market in a week's time. They include a very diverse planting of many favorite garden plants! Folks are more than welcome to keep the wooden box, however we will pay $5 for any returns. We can use these to store our onions in for the winter, so returns are encouraged. ...

April Tasks.....

The past few weeks have been very busy! Today is no exception, however we are in between planting, so I have time to squeak in a few blogs before I head back out! All lettuce is now in the ground. Some in #3 greenhouse, the rest in the field and will be covered. Other crops are being direct seeded as we speak! We are a officially late putting our extra early onions in, but every year is different. Ben has plowed all the fields, our oats are planted and our strawberry patch has been 'raked'. Ben's mom was working with wind power the last couple of days getting this excess straw off the patch, so the vigorous green growth can reach through....

Spring Greenhouse Lettuce....

A few more weeks and heads of lettuce, asian greens, radish & bunching onions will appear at market! It is working well direct transplanting into the third greenhouse. The only thing is that we HAVE to summer fallow it! There are tons and tons of little weed seedlings that grow way faster than direct 'seeded' stuff like the spinach & salad greens. So much so that Ben went and rototilled a bunch of stuff up!! You can't win 'em all! The lettuce transplants have taken a hold and are thriving. The greens are very, very happy under the glass this time of year!
BOX GARDENS: Ben and I are also offering our own seedlings this year. We will have different tomato plants, such as those sweet, sweet, sweet yellow Sun Sugars, along with lettuce, broccoli, onions, asian greens, herbs, peppers, eggplant etc. for sale for your gardens or pots. If you liked something you have purchased from our market tables over the seasons, please ask! I am transplanting out 'custom' gardens. More info and a complete blog to follow next week. No rush, it is still cold! Come May, Ben and I will likely bring plug transplants and soil and different sized pots so everyone can grow a custom garden! Or just simply buy a few plugs to transplant out in your own garden! There is still time to order compost too, head down two posts, read the blog and email!
